Stumpy Gully Winery is one of the longest-running family wineries on the Mornington Peninsula, established in 1989 by Dutch immigrants Frank and Wendy Zantvoort on former dairy land they'd originally intended for citrus. Wendy studied winemaking at Charles Sturt University while Frank continued working as a physiotherapist, and what began as a passion project grew into a full vineyard business now spanning three distinct blocks across 26 acres. The winery is now run by second-generation winemaker Michael Zantvoort and his wife Liz, with Michael having grown up working the vines before studying agriculture and gradually taking over the business from his parents. Stumpy Gully produces 11 varieties across four labels, from its early reputation for Sauvignon Blanc to its now-iconic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, alongside Marsanne, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Seated 'paddle flight' wine tastings are held in the Barrel Room Cellar Door for groups of up to 30, with larger group bookings arranged directly. The onsite restaurant, run by chef Shane Burke, offers a seasonal a la carte menu with an Asian fusion twist, pairing locally sourced produce with the estate's wines across lunch and dinner, and an outdoor summer deck extends the cellar door experience in warmer months. Just two minutes off the Peninsula Link Freeway at Moorooduc, Stumpy Gully is typically the first winery visitors reach when touring the Mornington Peninsula from Melbourne.
