Farmer & The Scientist is a small-batch Heathcote winery run by husband and wife Brian and Jess Dwyer, whose names give the label its playful title, Brian being the farmer and viticulturist and Jess the scientist with a background in environmental science and teaching. What began as a hobby project making tiny batches of Shiraz and Tempranillo in a shed has grown into a wider range across six grape varieties, including Rosé, Fiano, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio, drawing on the rich, spicy reds the Heathcote region is known for. Brian also manages a nearby 193-acre vineyard alongside the couple's own 20 acres of vines. Without a permanent cellar door, Farmer & The Scientist pours at occasional Heathcote Women in Wine popups and regional tasting events, making it a genuine small-producer discovery for visitors exploring the Heathcote wine trail.
