Trofeo Estate is a family-owned vineyard, cellar door and restaurant at the foothills of Red Hill in Dromana, considered one of the Mornington Peninsula's oldest vineyards and housed within a converted 1930s passionfruit cannery with tall ceilings, exposed red brick and industrial concrete floors. The estate was originally planted as a winery in the 1950s before a 1967 bushfire destroyed the vines, later used as pasture and dairy cool stores until vines were replanted in 1998 and current owners Jim and Kathy Manolios acquired the property in 2012, naming it Trofeo, meaning trophy in Italian, after Jim's motorsports company. Trofeo is one of the largest producers in Australia to age and ferment exclusively in terracotta amphora vessels imported from Italy, an ancient method producing elegant, fruit-driven wines without the influence of oak, using organic and biodynamic, 100% vegan-friendly viticulture. Surrounded by vineyards, gardens and a lake, the restaurant is led by hatted head chef Andy Doughton and serves a relaxed shared menu drawing on seasonal, regional produce, with dining spilling onto a deck and wine garden overlooking 50 acres of vineyard. Cellar door tastings run Thursday to Monday, with lunch service Thursday to Monday and Friday evening dinner, and the venue also hosts weddings, corporate functions and special dinners such as its annual Bastille Day collaboration with Flinders Truffles.
