Description

Margaret is chef Neil Perry's first solo restaurant venture, opened in 2021 on the corner of Bay Street and Guilfoyle Avenue in Double Bay and named in memory of his mother. The elegant dining room combines muted tones, natural timbers, limestone and bronze with Mediterranean-inspired artwork, and double-storey glass windows overlook nearby Guilfoyle Park. At the centre of the open kitchen sits a custom wood-fired grill, used to cook sustainable wild-caught seafood, premium dry-aged beef and peak-season produce sourced through Perry's long-standing relationships with Australian farmers and fishermen. Signature dishes have included lobster with sambal butter, wood-rotisserie chicken with smoked eggplant puree, and a well-known burger. Margaret has been named the world's number two steak restaurant and Australia's best in the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants rankings for 2026, and is one of only two restaurants globally to hold the Beef Advocate Certificate for producer-led provenance. The venue offers a semi-private dining room for groups of 10 to 18 and full exclusive hire for up to 100 guests, alongside curated set menus for larger group bookings. Open for lunch Thursday to Sunday and dinner Wednesday to Sunday, Margaret sits alongside sister venues including the more casual Cafe Margaret next door, forming a small Double Bay dining precinct under the Perry family's direction.
