La Lupa Pizza & Pasta has operated from Frankston-Flinders Road in Tyabb for more than two decades, started by Mick Ambesi when he was just 21 after moving on from the fruit and vegetable trade. His younger brother Vince joined the business at 15, and the two have run it together ever since, building a loyal following that now includes customers who first came as kids and return with their own children. The menu sticks to what Mick describes as "80s style pizza loaded with toppings," deliberately Australian rather than the wood-fired Italian style that's become common elsewhere on the Peninsula. Signature pizzas include the Caribbean, topped with hot salami, capsicum, pineapple, prawns, onion and bacon, and Vince's own favourite, the La Luna Special, loaded with cheese, salami, mushrooms, capsicum, olives and anchovies. Beyond pizza, the menu extends to pasta dishes, a seafood basket and lamb cutlets. That consistency has paid off: La Lupa was named the Mornington Peninsula's best pizza for two consecutive years by the local paper, and won Triple M Melbourne's Best Pizza competition in 2025. Customers travel from as far as Cranbourne, Langwarrin and Frankston, more than 20km away, specifically for a slice. Open seven nights a week for takeaway and delivery, La Lupa suits pizza traditionalists after a genuinely old-school Australian-style pizza, backed by decades of the same family running the shop.
