Strangers' Dining Room, now commonly known as Strangers' Restaurant, is a heritage dining room within Queensland's historic Old Parliament House, entered via the Parliamentary Annexe on Alice Street in Brisbane's CBD. Originally the Members Dining Room, the room dates to the 1890s and retains its original charm, with early Australian cedar yoke-back chairs, inlaid parquet floors and interior decoration reflecting the late Victorian era of its construction. The name Strangers' refers to any visitor to the parliamentary precinct who is not a Member of Parliament, a term that has applied to dignitaries, consulate representatives and members of the public since the room first opened for high tea in 2006 and later for public lunch and dinner service in 2019. The contemporary menu celebrates Queensland produce, working with local farmers, fishers, brewers and bakers, and changes with the seasons, offered as a two or three-course a la carte selection or a five-course tasting menu. Strangers' welcomes the public for lunch Wednesday to Friday and dinner on Friday evenings, excluding parliamentary sitting days, alongside its long-running high tea service accompanied by live classical music. The venue also hosts private dining and events across a range of parliamentary function spaces, from an intimate Cellar room for 10 guests to the light-filled Speaker's Dining Room overlooking the Speaker's Green.
