Masuya Restaurant is a long-running Japanese restaurant on O'Connell Street in the Sydney CBD, opened in 1993 in a heritage-listed building. Following a full renovation in 2006, the restaurant is centred on an approximately five-metre sushi counter finished in kabuki red, with a daily showcase of more than 20 sushi ingredients including locally sourced fish purchased fresh each day. The menu also features wagyu beef, free-range pork and seasonal vegetables, alongside dishes such as lobster sashimi and kingfish wings, served on tableware by Malcolm Greenwood. Diners can choose from an extensive sake list and full bar. Tucked below street level, Masuya has built a loyal following among Japanese business diners and visitors. Open for lunch on weekdays and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, it's a convenient pre-theatre option near Circular Quay.
