The Hidden Kitchen began as a tiny bakery tucked just off Point Nepean Road in Tootgarook and has since grown into part of a four-venue Peninsula group known as The Kitchens, though it remains where the whole story started. Baking now happens at a purpose-built production kitchen at The Rye Kitchen, with fresh sandwiches, wraps, salads, award-winning pies, sausage rolls and sweet treats delivered to Tootgarook each morning to fill the cabinets. Commonfolk coffee anchors the drinks menu, served alongside an all-day breakfast built on toasties, pies and simple, well-made classics. A dog-friendly courtyard sits alongside cosy indoor seating, and no bookings are needed, just walk in and order at the counter. The cafe suits a quick coffee on the way to the beach, a stop before or after a visit to the nearby hot springs, or a proper sit-down breakfast for anyone in less of a hurry. Public holiday hours run 7:30am to 3pm with a 15% surcharge applying on those days. Despite growing into a wider group of venues across the Peninsula, this original Tootgarook location has kept the same relaxed, welcoming feel it opened with all those years ago, before the wider group existed. Nearly fifty staff now work across the wider group, all delivering the same standard of fresh, locally made food each morning.
