T'Gallant traces back to 1994, when Kevin McCarthy and Kathleen Quealy were driving through the Mornington Peninsula and stopped at a stretch of apple orchards that would become the vineyard. They knocked on the farmer's door, made an offer on the spot, and replaced the apple trees with ten acres of Pinot Gris, a variety virtually unheard of in Australia at the time. Three decades on, T'Gallant remains a pioneer of the grape, with a portfolio spanning Pinot Gris, Grigio and Noir, crisp rosé, sparkling Moscato and Prosecco, and a canned spritz range. Treasury Wine Estates bought the vineyard in 2003, and Melbourne fund managers Ben Gray and Dion Hershan took ownership in 2022, engaging design firm Bergman & Co to reshape the site around its rolling hills and vines. Five distinct spaces now cater to different visits, from a family-friendly restaurant with garden views to a quieter, more intimate dining room, an open-air patio bar and a communal outdoor piazza. Wood-fired, rectangular Roman-style pizzas anchor the food menu, available vegan or gluten-free, alongside antipasti and cheese boards. Cellar door tastings run through the day, and the piazza fills with live local musicians on weekends. Open seven days for lunch and tastings, T'Gallant suits everything from a quick cellar door stop to a full lunch spent seated within the vines.
