Enter Via Laundry began in 2018 when chef Helly Raichura started hosting ten-person degustation dinners in her Box Hill home, with guests literally entering the dining room through her laundry. A guest-judging spot on Masterchef in 2020 sent demand into the thousands, and after a series of pop-ups Raichura opened a permanent 20 to 25-seat restaurant in Carlton North in 2022, earning a Good Food Guide hat in its first year. The exact street number is only shared at booking, and diners enter through a rear laneway into a courtyard rather than the Nicholson Street frontage, keeping the sense of mystery that defined the original home dinners. The set menu changes every few months, with each rotation devoted to a different region of India, past editions have covered Goa, Kerala, Kashmir, Bengal, Gujarat, Parsi and Mughlai cuisine, with each rotation built around dishes rarely seen on a standard Indian restaurant menu. Guests sit at a private table or a shared communal table where they meet fellow diners, and Raichura or her team talk through the inspiration behind each course as it arrives. A separate bar menu offers casual snacks and drinks, including dishes like a pork sorpotel croquette, for anyone after something lighter than the full tasting menu. Dietary requirements are accommodated with advance notice, and the restaurant trades Wednesday to Saturday evenings, closed Sunday through Tuesday.
