Gabriel
Description
Gabriel takes its name from the space's former life as De Clieu, a nod to the French naval officer credited with bringing coffee to South America, and channels a European espresso bar from the 1950s with a modern twist. Set on the corner of Gertrude and George Street in Fitzroy, the cafe pairs terrazzo flooring, emerald-green wall tiles and vintage 1930s pendant lights with a large mixed-media artwork by Melbourne artist Patrick Dagg. The all-day breakfast and lunch menu draws on French and European influences, kept deliberately simple but elegant, alongside cocktails for those after something stronger. Open daily from 7am to 4pm, Gabriel takes bookings for parties of six or more on weekends, with smaller groups welcome on a walk-in basis. It's a considered, character-filled spot for a Fitzroy breakfast or lunch.
