ISH has called Fitzroy's Gertrude Street home since November 2018, offering a lively, inventive take on Indian cuisine that sits at the intersection of old and new, traditional and modern, Eastern and Western. Chef and creative force Ganeev Bains built the restaurant on the idea of unexpected India, with dishes designed for sharing across peckish, moreish and famished categories, from free-range chicken tikka with ginger and garlic to Indian scotch eggs and home-made pan buns with spiced potato fritter and mint chutney. A two-storey fit-out mixes monochrome minimalism downstairs with warmer red brick and European-influenced bistro lighting upstairs, giving the venue a distinctive, layered atmosphere. Private dining and curated menus cater to birthdays, corporate events and special gatherings, backed by warm hospitality that draws on Indian tradition. ISH continues to represent a genuinely modern Indian dining experience in one of Fitzroy's most celebrated dining strips.
