Description

Commis sits somewhere between a cocktail bar, a wine bar and a restaurant, opened by Daniel Docherty, Gabriel de Melo Freire and Adina Weinstein, all previously of Melbourne institution Gerald's Bar. The kitchen, led by de Melo Freire, works with fresh produce from Victorian suppliers such as Day's Walk Farm and Two Hands Fish, with a menu that changes regularly and might include venison osso buco, kangaroo tail croquettes or cotechino risotto with smoked carrots. A constant on the menu is the staff meal, offered to diners as a nod to the team and the industry behind it. The venue includes a booking-only dining room, a front bar where guests can watch the mixologist at work, a courtyard and an upper platform, with bar and courtyard tables reserved for walk-ins only. It's a relaxed, playful room suited equally to a quick negroni or a full dinner.
