City Oltra grew out of a Sunday pop-up that Ben Fester and Drew Huston ran at Marrickville's Poor Toms gin hall, before the pair took on a lease in the Eddy Avenue precinct beside Central Station and brought Poor Toms along with them. The fit-out nods to a classic train station canteen, giving the space a genuine identity of its own right in the heart of the city. Pizzas lean more American than Italian, with 16-inch rounds bigger than the standard Sydney pie, alongside chunky square pies that can be made gluten-free. The Rancho Relaxo, a pepperoni pizza finished with a swirl of ranch sauce, has become one of the menu's signature orders, alongside rotating specials like spiced potato with house fennel sausage. Pizzas are available whole or by the slice, making it just as good for a fast bite before catching a train as for a proper sit-down dinner with drinks. A custom-built sound system carried over from the Marrickville pop-up days keeps the energy up, and the location right by Central Station puts it within easy reach for anyone in the city, whether that's a quick pizza stop or a full night out. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available across the pizza range, and the venue is well suited to groups given its casual, no-bookings-needed format.
