In recent years the fishers of Corner Inlet took it upon themselves to reduce the number of licence holders
operating, in order to reduce the environmental impact of the fishery. The remaining fishers work
collaboratively in order to maintain a self-imposed code of conduct between themselves, only fishing
between Monday & Fridays, and limiting themselves to 2 net throws per day. Furthermore, they work a
fishing method called ‘seine’ netting, which is a form of net fishing which allows them to eventually hand
select which fish they want to keep and release the ones they don’t, alive
