Description
El Rincon has traded from its spot in the Queen Victoria Market's food court for close to a decade, run by a family originally from La Línea de la Concepción in southern Spain with more than 40 years' involvement in Melbourne's Spanish food scene. Director Manuel Jimenez-Navarro designs the menu around his grandmother's cooking and the restaurant's Andalucian roots, with chef Clive Kirby preparing dishes such as patatas bravas, garlic and chilli mushrooms, and seafood or vegetarian paella cooked to order in the traditional pan. Around half of the produce used is sourced directly from the surrounding market for freshness, paired with Spanish wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, house-made sangria on tap, and Spanish liqueurs and sherries. Open across market trading days and weekends for breakfast through to dinner, El Rincon offers a genuine taste of southern Spain in the middle of the city.
