Azabu is a modern Wagyu yakiniku restaurant on James Street in Northbridge, marking the Australian debut of the Azabu franchise, which began in Malaysia in 2022 before expanding to Kuala Lumpur's Twin Towers in 2024. Perth director Chris Patton secured a City of Perth Business Improvement Grant to fully renovate the building's facade, which had stood vacant for six years, giving the sleek, intimate dining room its polished street presence. The menu centres on buttery, richly marbled A5 Japanese Wagyu, self-grilled at the table alongside delicate seafood, wagyu tataki, sashimi and rice and noodle dishes, with a $180 A5 set menu offering a curated tasting progression. Subdued lighting and minimalist decor let the premium ingredients take centre stage, backed by an exquisite drink selection and attentive service. Open for dinner Tuesday to Sunday, with later hours Friday and Saturday, Azabu suits a special-occasion dinner or an elevated night out in the heart of Perth's Northbridge entertainment precinct.
