Kafeneion has found a permanent home on the first floor of 161 Spring Street, joining forces with the storied Melbourne Supper Club after starting life as a winter pop-up that quickly became one of the city's most well-known restaurants. Set up by acclaimed restaurateur Con Christopoulos, the taverna serves genuinely traditional Greek comfort food drawn from authentic village recipes, including hearty soups, whipped cod roe dip, hand-cut chips and a rotating fish of the day, with main courses available as half or full servings. Falling-apart braised beef cheeks and slow-cooked chicken with pasta epitomise the venue's homestyle approach, served against the Supper Club's leather couches and wood-panelled interior. After 10pm, a smaller supper menu keeps the kitchen running until 1am Monday and 4am Tuesday to Saturday, drawing on the Supper Club's own extensive, largely wine-focused drinks list. It's a genuinely late-night, unhurried option for authentic Greek dining in the heart of Melbourne.
