Chotto Motto specialises in the Hamamatsu regional style of cooking gyoza, with dumplings arranged in rings of ten or twenty pieces, pan-fried, flipped and fried again until crisp. Fillings run from classic pork through to spicy kimchi miso pork and vegan chickpea and ginger options, with the signature version finished in the restaurant's own crispy chilli oil. The interior is packed with Showa-era Japanese vintage antiques, from an old slot machine to retro toys and collectibles, alongside vibrant murals inside and out by local street artists. It's a fun, informal room built around beer, with a refurbished Japanese vending machine stocking local independents alongside imported Japanese craft beer. Found on Wellington Street in Collingwood, Chotto Motto is well suited to a casual dinner with friends or a pre-drinks stop before heading further into the neighbourhood's bar strip.
