Description
Ichoume takes its name from the address of the street it sits on in Darling Quarter, drawing on the Japanese term for a first city district to give the venue a genuine sense of place within the precinct. Owners Ari K. and Yuki Ishikawa, who also runs jazz and Japanese cuisine venue Jazushi in Surry Hills, position Ichoume as a hangout for adults, with a menu supervised by Akiko Ishikawa that fuses Japanese-based cuisine with French technique. Executive chef Akiko Takenaga and head chef Tomohiko Kimura's dishes span wagyu beef sushi with foie gras and caviar, kaisen sashimi don and a well-regarded burrata with wasabi soy and nori oil, complemented by wine and sake lists curated by master sommeliers. A funky, technicolour and dark-wood interior gives the restaurant a striking visual identity, while live piano music adds atmosphere even on weekday evenings.
