Denmark House
Description
Denmark House sits on the third floor of a building on Little Bourke Street in the Melbourne CBD, hidden above street level and home to the city's Danish Club, one of the oldest social clubs of its kind in Australia. Anyone can visit without a club membership, with a lunch menu built around smørrebrød, the traditional Danish open sandwich, available in around 20 varieties. Come evening, the kitchen shifts to contemporary Nordic comfort food using seasonal ingredients, part of the wider New Nordic cuisine movement. The Akvavit Bar pours Danish beer and cider alongside an extensive range of Akvavit, often served as a tasting flight paired with smørrebrød. The Danish-designed interior, all timber beams, white walls and frosted glass reminiscent of Copenhagen's Nyhavn harbour, sets the scene for hygge, and the venue also hosts live jazz nights and functions for weddings and corporate gatherings.
